What file type and size does my avatar need to be? i really need to know

Not sure of all acceptable file types, but JPEG seems to be the most common.
Less than 20kb (limit may be higher) and 140x160 px and you should be fine.

The actual limits are 200x200 pixels and I believe 65 kb file size.
A reasonable dimension is 130 w x 180 h (pixels)
A jepg, png, gif or bmp will work
