I just confirmed with Becko that it was a Topyo manufactured yoyo (I also love Topyo, and many of my yoyos are manufactured there)

The cost of producing yoyos in China is cheap, yet so very expensive. I’m not going to go into the geopolitics of it all, but there’s far more happening here than most people realise.

Let’s try this example. I’ve been yo-yoing regularly for only a year. I decide one day I’m making yo-yos now, in house, on my own property with my own bought machines, my own good ole American everything. Would anyone really think based on my natural lack of personal knowledge and experience that those yo-yos are going to be very good QC? Or really at anything that makes a good yoyo? “But it’s made in America! I promise it’s made right here, yet…it’s not out preforming, doesn’t look as nice, nor is as smooth as this $30 Windrunner??”

I totally subscribe, I think your answer is the most sensible of the whole discussion! and for those who praise OneDrop’s QC as unique or an added value… you didn’t know the mania of Italian producers such as Brokenyoyos, Oxygènè or B!ST but above all I can tell you that I personally own three YYF, made in China, B-grade, that I differ from the A-grades only for the deliberate absence of graphics, so I repeat… but what are we talking about?

I think this thread can be easily sorted with:

Yoyofriends - Shortcut
Yoyofriends - Da Vinci
Yoyofriends - everything I tried made by them

UNPRLD - Seiji
UNPRLD - SU1
UNPRLD - Everything I tried made by them

Duncan - GTR-JS

Japan Technology - Jugemu

C3 - Cyber Crash 2
C3 - Laevateinn
C3 - Everything I tried made by them

And the list can go on and on with many different brands that I never tried, all those are yoyos made in China with absolutely amazing quality and absolutely amazing perfomances, some more expensive than other but still all made there.
If we want to go to the cheap side and for the obsessed of the yoyo nail vibe, the Shortcut by Yoyofriends is a 30$ monometal smooth as glass but seriously smooth and a great yoyo as well.

Still do not get this quality war around, I think at the end of the day is only boring and useless politics than actual yoyoing.

Tbh if you’re worrying about where your yoyos are made you should probably be worrying about your actual yoyoing instead lmfao

</div>

I especially love the amount of people comparing a $60-$70 monometal to a $20-$30 monometal and then going “See! American made is better!”

There’s a reason that $70 monometal is that price. And the reason is not just “it’s made in the US”.

More time is spent on quality control and possibly on design in a lot of cases.

And as you’ve shown with your list…plenty of cheaper yoyos that can keep up with it which often also depends on production scale.

When FPM makes 3000 Yoyofriends shortcuts…they have a nice economy of scale going on that can’t be matched when Onedrop makes 200 …wizards or whatever (I don’t know…I’m no onedrop expert).

I think quality control and design are far more important that where in the world the cnc machine is.

</div>

All this QC stuff that are better elsewhere to me sounds a bit of a legend itself, I do not buy many yoyos for sure but I never had issues with one (except a moonrock ano which was an issue of the finishing itself as you can read around).
Until now I never received a damaged yoyo with issues, vibes, problems with anodization and similar, maybe I have been lucky but by myself I have no proof to complain about low QC in China as I never experienced it.

About design is a whole different topic in my opinion but we can see how many brands have their designer and then the production outside even if I have to say that I tried many “full” Chinese brands (underground and not) that have very powerful and nice designs.

I think at the end of the day a monometal at $ 70/80 is decided by brand marketing and the market itself more than the quality, for example Turning point with some 250£ bimetals which for me are incredibly over priced but at the end of the day people and market make the price, if there are many people happy to buy it at that price than the brand will continue to keep it at that price.

</div>

Honestly the QC stuff CAN be a factor. But isn’t always. I’ve had a couple of yoyos from a bigger brand which were produced in Asia that had some pretty glaring issues.

At the same time I’ve never heard of something produced by Onedrop with similar problems. This has to do with things like QC but once again also scale.

Produce 2000 yoyos with 2% having a problem and that’s 40 yoyos. Produce 200 with 2% and that’s 4. And it’s much easier and cheaper to catch 4/200 than it is catching 40/2000.
