The Lotus is more dangerous than a normal yo-yo (you know, the ones for weak people 😄), but less dangerous than the Hattori or Hanzo.

I think of it this way…
Talk to a Chef about all the knives he has in the ‘kitchen’. Ask him what each knife is for?
He will tell you, if he only had a few knives, he could probably handle a good number of tasks, but it’s a waste of energy. Every knife has strong points and shortcomings. If you know what each knife is for, then that is the one you reach for to accomplish the task at hand.
Golfers have a whole bag full of clubs: drivers, putters, sand wedge, numbered clubs with various angles of lift, etc. Regardless of their specified primary function, they are all golf clubs and they are all used as needed to play golf.
Shotguns are awesome, but a poor choice if you are hunting Grizzly bears. A 6.5 Creedmoor with a sniper scope is an amazing weapon, but not if you are just gopher hunting in the Patio.
Following that basic pattern of logic in functionality and application, yo-yos are no different.
Pick just about any yoyo and break it down. Spins forever… regens beautifully…finger grinds… palm grinds… chopsticks, oh yeah… DNA monster… dead unresponsive… fairly unresponsive… responsive… better for 3A… best for 1A… well suited for 5A… very stable… not very stable but very powerful… great for tech… low/medium/high wall/no wall…etc……
Pick one or more strong points from the above, only partial list.
To identify what you consider a negative, is primarily ‘a negative’ because every yo-yo just doesn’t do everything.
There is nothing wrong with saying you would not buy a new yo-yo because it has one or more features you just can’t bother to deal with.
But just like a gun or a golf club or a kitchen knife, if you can afford to have a bag of yo-yos with various strong points, then you can reach for the one with the features you feel like dealing with as necessary.
I have a few Lotus yo-yos… the Lotus is quite an Adventure. It feels good to throw. It has an amazing sound. It has good power considering it’s a mono metal. It’s cool to see through the yo-yo when it’s spinning… It’s very attractive when it’s only a few feet from you(your eyes get a much better handle on the beauty of the design than any image you see on a screen. It’s just different and does take some adjusting before you realize and recognize that you can actually appreciate what you can enjoy about it
Julio didn’t even think about competition yo-yos when he designed the Lotus. He has become well known for approaching yo-yo designs from every angle for the adventure.
His numerous designs over the years, prove there is certainly no dust on this guy…He just keeps coming up with cool stuff to play with.
Some people will say, there is nothing else like it. Some will say that in a negative way and some will mean it in a positive way.
I really like mine. There is nothing else like it.

Funnily enough, I actually love doing chopsticks with it. You can do palm/finger grinds without it hurting you. So it’s not a risky move.
And with chopsticks, you can feel the wind on your hand from the yo-yo.
Mainly, stuff like rejections, sidewinders, and horizontal play are problematic.
