That guitar analogy does not work as string dampeners are not tightly bound around the neck and strings, they are placed there loose enough to dampen the strings and prevent resonance from “activating strings”.

These plastic rims are press fitted and thus do not dampen anything. Surely, they might slightly change the overall resonance frequency of the yoyo but that has no effect on the wobble frequency of a yoyo after a sloppy throw which is magnitudes smaller.

The only valid point is reduced mass at the furthest distance from the symmetry plane.

Well, two Para Autoscopys would currently run $2600+. Granted, fewer durability concerns.

I also share this experience. The W1ldest is such a great throw. Very powerful and stable yo-yo. At this level we are discussing the differences between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini.

Kaede, you are venturing into snake oil territory here.
Long sustain on guitars is one of the most missunderstood concepts. The more rigid the entire assembly, the longer the strings will vibrate, because less energy will be transferred from the strings to the body and neck.

I don’t see where this has anything to do with a press fitted plastic ring that only contributes mass.

It would dampen the ringing of a titanium like you said but that’s not the same type of vibration as vibe.

I don’t own a Liminal Autoscopy but I do have a Toru 0.999 and have had no issues with durability (note that I do try to take care of my throws/yo-yo over carpet).

I’d also say that this type of rim interface has at this point been around some 3 years or so from the Onslaught, so while I expect it to come with some lessened durability due to being an extra couple of components, I think this is being rather exaggerated by some here given people have been using this type of yo-yo for a bit now.

Oh also the Toru isn’t any more or less prone to throw vibe than any other non-plastic rim yo-yo I’ve used, as you would expect from the rings being press-fitted…

Anyway, hype to one day get this throw. Though I think I’ll wait for a blasted ring version in a colour I like to release.

Having a degree in engineering physics does not by any means make me a know-it-all. In fact, quite the opposite. I could not make sense of this design idea from a performance side which is why I raised the question. And see, there are many replies that all have their own interesting ideas.

This rim feature on Onslaught was reviewed in a post from 2020:

> [@YYR Onslaught?](https://forums.yoyoexpert.com/t/yyr-onslaught/319546/2):
>
> the Onslaught is a really great yoyo, one of the best of the more recent YYR designs in my opinion. unfortunately, the unique design of it is not executed in the best way. if you didn’t know, there are two rims on the Onslaught, the outer rim is SS and the inner rim is actually plastic. this design is super unique and plays very uniquely too. the performance of the yoyo is really good, as most yyr bimetals are, but the plastic ring gives a very interesting feel to the yoyo, it’s hard to describ…

Definitely less durable but also Jimmy is one of the best players in the world for sure and yeah I don’t think he was concerned about durability…probably just trying to max out performance is my guess.

Also Jimmy does still probably kerbonk his yoyos bc he stays making up big new bangers and collisions are inevitable. Probably easy enough to pop them back together tho. I don’t know any 3a players that are concerned with vibe. As long as they are easy to reset, not a big deal really. This is just my take as someone that plays 3a everyday.

I‘m no 3A player, but aren’t yoyos for this style more on the narrow side? At 47 mm this seems pretty wide.

I’m asking because Hajime also excels at 1A, so his intent could be a 1A + 3A usecase with such a design.

That would make sense. OTOH, Blur Autoscopy is intended for 1A and it is the narrowest in the line.
