Hey all, name is Troy. Started messing with yoyos in the early 90’s a couple years before the hobby exploded. Had fun back then with looping tricks. My favorite was my green proyo with the cork response pads and the bumble bee which had that sick black and yellow string. Having fun trying to learn the unresponsive stuff. Been out of the loop for a long time so it is awesome to see what I have missed. Trying to a simple side style speed run. Hello everyone, my name is Kenny and I’m from Tennessee. I’m new to throwing but I fell in love quickly. I’ve been using the Skill Addicts app and YouTube tutorials to learn. The last couple tricks I learned was Nanda Kanda and Cold Fusion. I love putting on music and getting lost in practice. I like playing mostly but I do enjoy the collecting/display aspect as well. I currently have around 15 throws, a few of my favorites are the ZRGT Libero, Dressel Designs Nimbus and Offset Xenon. It’s nice to meet everyone and be a part of a great community! Hi! My name is Chris and I’m pretty new to the forum. Aside from yo-yoing on the playground in the 90’s when it was really popular, I started getting more into the hobby around 2007 or so when I got a YoyoJam Speeder. I still have it! My username comes from a joke an old high school teacher of mine made in 2007 when I brought my speeder to school - it’s the only yoyo trick they knew! I dropped off for a while but picked up yo-yoing again about a year ago. It seems like things really started changing/progressing around 2009 when I gave other hobbies more of my time. I’ve been blown away by how far things have come since I left the hobby about 15 years ago. Still not great at it but happy I found my way back! ---

I’m new here and I’m an absolute beginner. I haven’t used a yo yo since I was in grade school. I was wondering to start off, if the Arrow elite and the Duncan metal drifter would be 2 good yo-yo’s to start with? ---

If you want _one_ yoyo to take you all the way, I suggest looking at a Shooting Star. For a first metal I love my YoTricks Summer Solstice ---

i would personally skip the drifter. i mean its okish, but for the same price you could get a recess first base and learn way more imo ---

I am The Cloverdale Kid- a moniker given to me by a very famous music journalist (Penny Reel Reggae writer UK) a hundred years ago. 52 now, yoyo obsessed again. Seems to go in about five year spurts, but for now I am carrying a yoyo everywhere. Got my old wooden Imperial from grandma in the 70’s….One Drop made me metals (this is on them), and for someone who really sucks, I probably have way to many yoyos. Come to find some of them are now coveted classics…even though they are just toys to me. Said in another thread my wife is STOKED I have discovered how awesome new plastic is, because she has lost her coffee table to Luftwerk. I know I am not the oldest of us…wondering who is? Anyway, I also teach (29th year) science (and skill toys when we have had enough of the serious stuff), play punk songs on the Ukulele, and handle birds of prey for giggles. Just want to add to the voices to pass on the metal drifter. If the vibe of it really speaks to you, then go for it! If you want something at the same price point that will perform better, I recommend N12 sharks honor by magicyoyo. If you want to spend like 10$-15$ more there are way way more options and you will hit the point of diminishing returns for mono metals. ---

Well, I went ahead and bought a variety of yo-yos. I got one aluminum alloy magic yoyo, coming tomorrow along with a Duncan hornet yo yo. I Also placed an order with Duncan and yo yo expert. But they’re both not gonna be here till Friday or later. Their shipping is a lot slower than Amazon Where I ordered the magic, and the hornet. From Duncan I ordered the metal racer and from Yoyo expert I ordered the Arrow. ---

New member here from Central Illinois. I’m not a very skilled thrower by any means. Quick backstory, I saw a guy doing tricks as a very small child, played with a freebie they were giving out for a few weeks, then forgot about yoyo’s until I saw The Yoyo Man on a Smothers Brothers reunion that my mother made me watch. That inspired me to talk her into buying me a Duncan Imperial. I learned a few more things, then put it away again. Every couple years, my mother would buy me another yoyo, and I would repeat the process, then eventually put it in my desk drawer with the others. Every couple years, they come out again. Eventually, my small children found them, and then they would buy me one for Christmas (or talk my wife into buying me one) every couple years. Anyway, the kids are now 10 and 12. The throws came out a couple months ago, and now the kids are getting into it, so maybe it will stick this time. It’s opened new avenues. That led to printing some throws themselves, so far, just basic stuff with fixed axles that just press in. Now were’s going to try printing some with bearings, which will be the next adventure.
