Just thought I’d post here to see if there’s anything one needs to be made aware of before shipping internationally. Normally I stick to CONUS just because it’s just easier to deal with. Someone in Great Britain wants to purchase a particular throw I have. If they’re gonna send the loot, adding in shipping/tax and PayPal fees, how could it be a scam? I can’t find a place for one.
Anywho, I was just thinking maybe there’s some thing/cost about international shipping I don’t see.
Any advise? Thanks folks. 😁

International shipping is much easier than some US throwers seem to make out. It’s more expensive and takes slightly longer, but the only major difference is a customs form/declaration. You just say it’s a yoyo toy with a value of $10 to $20 - gets through customs without issue basically every time.
Shipping to the US now brings a very small tariff for international throwers, but as far as I know, there’s no additional fees/duties for shipping from the US.
I live in the UK and just got a yoyo shipped to me from the US - via UPS for around $20 - it arrived in 5 days or so, no issues.

Okay, so there aren’t additional steps? this customs form declaration your referring to, I don’t really see this as an active step. I use a third party shipper and they don’t seem to make a big deal of it??

I’ve seen Americans say crazy things about international shipping, either their postal services really suck or they’re all really confused about what tarrifs are.

They probably just ask a few extra questions as mentioned then generate the required forms along with your label.

GB there’s a VAT tax thing but that’s part of the declaration form get the persons phone number and email for tracking and such (phone number is required for intl)
It’s slightly more tedious but not much more big thing us package stuff well cause it’s changing hands a bunch more

USPS had been better but a certain party has really pushed to kill it over the last two decades. Even after the reform act took place they have simply cut funding. It’s like there’s lobbies trying to get an agenda through or something

I’ve shipped to Australia twice now, it’s been easy. First time I did the label at USPS, this time I did a UPS label at home and dropped off at a UPS store. Both got there fine. I insured for 200 the first time, 120 the second time. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

As long as the value is low both parties avoid any VAT issues - I’ve only had an issue a couple of times, when retailers or sellers put a high value, but even then the issue was on my end

Just a little more leg work to ship it. Can’t use a postal kiosk and you have to fill out the customs shipping form, that’s about it. I don’t mind shipping international and there’s only one person who I will typically cover the shipping cost or if I feel me eating the shipping cost will balance out the deal. I just shipped 2 throws to Poland it was just over $40. As with any transaction, if you don’t know them or it feels off, use G&S.

I know it’s really easy to complain about USPS, so I did a bit of research. we are ranked in the top ten globally as far as mail service goes. Switzerland is number one. Japan and Germany are up there pretty high. Denmark. Of course Scandinavian countries score pretty high. A surprising one was Italy, apparently their mail is absolutely horrendous. Canada is conspicuously absent, but based on what I’ve heard, that’s not surprising. Strikes and whatnot. You can have the best infrastructure set up, but if no one shows up to carry the mail does it make a difference?
I dunno, no one asked, but I was curious about it. Anyways, anyone in some of those countries confirm?

The main issue with international shipping for me is cost. If the buyer pays the shipping I’m ok with it. I’ve only had 2 cases and both times the buyer agreed to pay the shipping cost. In CONUS I pay the shipping.
The U.S. customs form is trivial.

No, it’s a paper form you have to fill out.
Instead of writing the recipient/return addresses on the box yourself, you write them in the form and they use the form to print a label which they attach to the box. You need to itemise what’s in the box and list its value and quantity. You’re _supposed_ to put an overly specific description (e.g. ‘men’s t-shirt’ rather than ‘clothes’), but in practice nobody cares at all. As long as you’re not sending anything prohibited from import it will get through even if you lie through your teeth about the value and describe a yoyo as ‘yoyo’ and don’t mention the presence of other things (e.g. bearing, strings, etc.).
