Sadly…I only knew one trick….
And i forgot it.
Oh… I remembered, lol.
Spirit Bomb.
PS… many years ago. I was at nationals up in Chico. I was standing off to the side of the stage with the rest of the crowd, who obviously were mainly in the front. I was in the area and close proximity to people that would be going up on stage to compete. One of the guys that was getting ready to go up in the next few minutes, was trying something over and over, which I found interesting because he was competing 5A, but the trick wasn’t what I would consider a 5A trick.
I ask him… What are you trying to do? He said now and then I try this trick which for whatever reason I just can’t seem to master. Over the last few years I try for a while and then give up and then a few months later, I try it again and give up and it’s been a couple years and I still suck at it and I can’t wire it. It’s called Spirit bomb and it just got the best of me.
Anyway… A few minutes later, they call them up on stage and he not only did a really good freestyle, but he won the 5A division that year.
I have never been a trick generating machine. And all those years ago I obviously knew less than I know now, lol.
But I had this pee brain idea that actually sounded like a pretty good challenge. I knew without hesitation or reservation that I could easily draw the conclusion that I will never enter any contest and win even the last place finish. I’ve always felt that if I was in an 11 person contest and they gave trophies all the way out to the 11th place… when he had everybody up on stage to give them their awards they would give out first place through 10th place. And then they would walk right past me and give the last place trophy to the janitor for doing such an excellent pre-contest stage, mopping all effectively using the entire stage to show off his moves and style. He would gladly accept the trophy and hand me his mop and wish me the best for next year.
So with that mentality, I decided to take a challenge. I decided to learn spirit bomb. I just thought it would be funny to be able to do a trick and maybe that only trick in yet it would be a trick whose mastery would escape a top level player that just won first place in his division.
So nowadays, obviously, spirit bomb is not some kind of magical trick. And even though a lot of advanced players nowadays would consider it pretty simple in the scheme of things. If you don’t know it and you try it it sure isn’t simple is it?
And to this day, I still think it has one of the coolest names of all yo-yo tricks. Spirit Bomb

For how often I find myself doing this trick by Tyler Vienneau I would be slightly embarrassed if I ever forgot it. There’s also a Cabin tutorial of it where one part has a rejection instead of swinging and bouncing back off the string. I’ve always mostly done the swing but both are cool.

Awesome story.
A few times over the years I’ve given Spirit Bomb a go. In my mind, the full trick is fairly routine/simple/easy.. but _for whatever reason_, I never got around to mastering the second pop… which is hilarious to me because I think a cross-armed-kwijibo-style-pop is probably my most used element (not even joking, I probably average 0.75 cross-armed-kwijibo-style-pop per breakaway, lmao). **I’m going to go master Spirit Bomb right now.**
Also, I guess my answer for the post is Kwijibo 😅
Edit: Got Spirit Bomb down. Just needed to focus up for 0.5 seconds to understand what the second pop was actually doing, lmao
