# How was "gyro flop" even invented?

I recently had the legend, Doctor Popular on my podcast, “kill your yoyo” to talk about all sorts of things. One thing he mentioned was how he created the classic trick gyro flop. It turns out he was hanging out with a juggler who was playing with a new kind of spin top with a bearing in it. That juggler was showing doc how he could get the top to spin about the axis of the string with a special trick he was calling gyroscopic flop. Well, Doc instantly pulled out his yoyo and mapped this new top trick onto yoyoing. The rest is history!
