A simple overhand loop will do just fine.

The proper way to tie a yoyo knot is to use the overhand knot and then to insert the string through the loop and form a slip-loop. While it is called a slip-knot, it is not actually one. What would happen if I just tie an ACTUAL slip-knot on the end with an overhand securing knot? My early Duncan yoyos came with actual slip-knots at one end. The ‘proper’ slip-loop method is universally accepted and I wonder if there is a reason for it.
