>
> Sorry for coming in late:
>
> First: What are you using? Hard to say what to upgrade from if we don’t know what you’re using.
>
> Second: Working on your throw is the best upgrade you can get in order to get better. I found this to be my biggest upgrade was just throwing better. My throws gradually improved from 25 seconds to over 2 minutes, to over 5 minutes. However, on a throw and sleep, it’s not a good utilization of my time. This is more a measure of your throw and equipment. Spin on a throw is different than spin times when you’re actually playing the yoyo.
>
> Third: A clean bearing can be an amazing upgrade. This can be as simple as properly cleaning out your existing bearing. Depending on your skill level here, this can be a major improvement with little to no cost. Sometimes you do need a new bearing. One thing is that I’m not saying stick with flat bearings only, but consider that a bad throw on a great bearing in an amazing yoyo is a bad throw on a great bearing in an amazing yoyo and isn’t going to help you. A centered string on a bad throw doesn’t do much for you.
>
> After that, I find that the V-shapes give a more generous catch zone. More rim weight helps with stability and long spin times, but only if it’s a straight, strong throw. But, there’s also amazing H-shapes, such as the Royale.
>
> Don’t let cost be a factor in determining good or not. The Classic with upgraded response and bearing becomes awesome fast. People are regularly competing with the $35 Protostar and don’t forget 1A for Worlds in 2010 was won with a $35 Northstar. These days there are some amazing low-cost metals, some of which are available at YYE, some you have to go elsewhere for. But if low-cost/affordable metals are what you are after, might I suggest God Tricks and the C3 Capless and DiBase?
>
> Spending a lot on a yoyo won’t make you a better player. Having a good yoyo can certainly help, I won’t deny that. Without the skill to back it up, you’re just playing an expensive yoyo. I love my Anglam, it’s one of my favorites, followed by my Phenom. But, I can still be happy and as “productive” with a Classic with a wider bearing and a siliconed response. I still play my DM2 nearly daily.
>
> Evaluate everything before you run out to spend your money. YYE will take your money and they will sell you a great yoyo. While I’m not a YYE employee, I do know they want you happy. However, until you throw it and find out for yourself if you actually like it or not, there’s no way of knowing. For me, I have preferences but I have stuff all over the place as far as size, weight, width and whatever. I am usually pretty easy to please. I still research before I buy.
>
> With that in mind, I am about to order a Model 10, Al5 and a Baracuda. I’ve played all but the Model 10 so I know 2 out of 2 I’m gonna like. I also feel the Model 10 will be a good fit as well. I am spreading the purchases around. I like the YYE Baracuda colorway so I’m getting that here. The other two I’m going to keep where I’m going to buy those to myself.

Wōw.

DM2 then when you get A LOT better get a dv888, when you get professional and you know just about everything, get a Genesis.

What what?

You don’t have to get progressively “better” yoyos as your skills get better. On the contrary, I think you should get the best equipment you can reasonably afford at the early stages of anything (learning to paint, play guitar, or play yoyo). It’s also debatable that the dv888 is a “progression” from the DM2 anyhow.

If it’s between those three, the Genesis has to win. You don’t have to “save yourself” for a yoyo of a particular level. If those are really your three choices, get the Genesis. If you’re hesitating on the Genesis, the other two are totally different from one-another, but on par. Pick the one that seems to suit you better.

- “reasonably afford” takes into account the budget you might want to invest in the early stages of a hobby. A new guitarist who wants an electric probably shouldn’t get a $3,500 top-end PRS even if they can afford one. Unless they’re independently wealthy. And then they should. And get me one while they’re at it.

I would say get the DM2 at your current skill level it is going to take the abuse well and the cost is less.

the all metals you are going to ding them and they can get bad vibe or scratched to the point it hurts your hands to use them. The plastic absorbs the shock better to a certain point of course.

I don’t want to be “that guy” but the DM2 is not more durable than a Genesis or dv888. Dings are not necessarily going to be deep or sharp enough to “hurt”, but they can happen on any of those 3 yoyos (DM2 has aluminum rims). Not everybody smashes their yoyos around, even as beginners (I sure didn’t and I’m not even cautious). It takes a lot of smashing a yoyo around to give it vibe if it had none before.

I don’t know. Seeing opinions or hearsay presented as facts will not help new yoyoers.

If you like the DM2, by all means get it, tykie22. I got one as my first “decent” unresponsive yoyo and I still love it. I’m not trying to dissuade you from that choice. On the other hand, I think if you want to and can spend the money, the Genesis is just in a different league from the dv888 or DM2.

Get whichever one you like, though. They will ALL get you as far as you want to go. No “upgrades” from one to the next required. If you get the DM2, you may decide you NEVER need another yoyo (although you may find yourself addicted!!). There’s no built-in “upgrade” path you need to follow.

Yeah any metal is more durable than. Plastic and plastic/metal.

GregP, what I meant was, a DM2 is a good yoyo to start with, and so on.

A DV888 is more of a yoyo for the yoyo player who knows his bind and is doing some intermediate-advanced trick. (Not to say the DM2 is either) and the genesis is an all out pro competition yoyo, that requires a little care IMO.

So the DM2 comes with two bearings to be for the beginner to pro player. The DV888 comes unresponsive out of the box for the intermediate to pro play.

We mean the metal will not crack or just break, not dings.

Also, your DIBase has probably been dropped on a floor vs. concert.

My yoyos don’t get dings from my hardwood or tile.

My favourite ding I got was from throwing over carpet.

I mean, it was thin carpet, but still. Just had to chuckle.

My first ding? Hmm, probably my friends DV888. I wasn’t throwing it I just grabbed the dice thingy and it dropped. I wasn’t experienced.

it’s of course depend on how hard you are whacking the yoyo on the ground. I’m just saying your average hit the natural flex of plastic is going to be a bit more forgiving.
