# Has anyone broken a spin top?

I’ve been playing with spin tops for 2-3 weeks now and have noticed how insanely tough these little things seem to be. They take an amount of abuse that seems like it would reduce most similar devices to pieces. Has anyone managed to break a top, and if so, what happened?

One year at worlds I broke 3 of them in a viscous battle top competition. So it is possible, but they are built really durable for normal use and abuse.

I broke the first Duncan top I got on the first throw before I learned about taping them😂
The new tops these days are much tougher, but you can break the tips if you are not careful.
