I just picked up the prototypes for the new TEXT yoyo by GN Yoyo Co. They are even better than I had expected. There are three shapes right now (W, H, and Organic). They all feel and play entirely different. Some have limitations but a couple are all out awesome. Stats are below.

This picture makes the sides look uneven for some reason. This is not accurate. ???
Diameter: 54.7mm / 2.153in.
Width: 34.06mm / 1.341in.
Weight: 42g
Short Review:
Unfortunately, this protos gap did not turn out as well as I would have liked making it hard for the yoyo to sleep due to it being extremely narrow. However, it does work when throw on a Breakaway, but front mount is a no go. The sleep time is limited even if it will sleep in the first place. Just need to work on gap width there.

Short Review:
This one plays a lot better than the H in the fact that it sleeps pretty well. It also has a strange feel because of its Size-to-weight ratio. The H, larger and wider, is 42 grams, whereas the Organic is small and narrow, but weighs in at 46 grams. I am not saying that I do not like it. It is a fun little Fixed Axle to throw around.

Short Review:
This one is my favorite of the three. It weighs more in the hand which allows it to sleep a lot longer than the others and it plays better overall in the first place. Being the biggest and the heaviest, it makes sense mathematically that it would play the best, and it did just that. This is by far the best, funnest, and nicest looking of all of them.

Conclusion: In conclusion of this prototype review (that will be posted in the Review Section giving more in depth information soon), I would like to say that these are all really good compared to what I, and lots others here on the forums, thought they would be. I can not wait to get these into other player's hands. At the Florida State Yoyo Contest, these will be given off to people for public testing if anyone would like to try them out.

My camera is old and low on battery. Being old, it takes forever to charge, but I will try to get pictures up tomorrow.

If you are looking for extra weight a heavy varnish and polyurethane should get you a few more grams and make for a nice clean surface. To to mention be pretty lol

The only problem with that suggestion is if you don’t apply the finish evenly(per half) and/or evenly ‘side to side’, then you just end up with a ‘Heavier nightmare’.
Successful execution of a suggestion is often more critical than the importance of the actual suggestion itself.

I mean no doubt proper execution is key. But quality control isn’t important just for this step, it is the most important part of making a yoyo.
I feel as tho if they have made it this far into their conquest of making a yoyo, they understand the importance of properly applying a finish.
And wood working defiantly isn’t a science like CNC has become, it is an art and will always rely heavily on trial and error.

Have you considered just cutting them in half, drill a hole for a metal axle or do a tom kuhn style metal axle?

I think the axle is too big for it to be able to sleep long enough? Responsiveness because of gap width is different than because of the bearing (and in this case the axle thickness). At first glance I can see how these will wear the string fast. If it was me, I would reduce the gap width and reduce the axle thickness for longer spin time and less wear/heat on string.

I see what you are saying. Thanks for your input. I just want to note that the gap on the H is so small that the string barely fits in it which is why it will not spin. 😃
