Do you remember when Jensen did a tutorial for his trick “The Usual Suspects”? Yeah, I think about that a lot. How everyone has a trick or combo they always do when they pick up a yoyo. It’s almost an unconscious trick, automatic, something you could do blindfolded. Not a banger or something cool, just a well worn path. EDIT: Hmm… ok, maybe it could be a cool trick but that’s not the point of it.

Yeah, I have go-two combos like that. I completely failed at a new trick that I tried for 3 1/2 days and seriously questioned why I even bother with yoyos. I tried to calm down and take a break for a few hours. Then I just ran through my go-to combo which is just a mish mash of parts of tricks that I can hit consistently and doing this and hearing the sound of the metal yoyo speeding around and the ting after the bind gave me confidence back.

As a total 5A newbie I am practicing simple 360s, and while I have it down pretty well I have noticed that:
- Using a hard plastic counterweight hurts my hand when I catch it, while
- Using a rubber counterweight doesn’t hurt, but tends to bounce out of my hand before I can grab it
The counterweight isn’t even swinging around that fast either–I’ve learned to impart less momentum onto the counterweight by not swinging the yoyo around so hard/fast, but the dang thing still either hurts or bounces much of the time. 😣

You are totally verbalizing my thoughts. I got the yellow ball today and i’m hoping the slightly heavier weight is easier to catch then the red ball… so far, and i’m one week into 5A so take it with multiple grains .of salt…i find the yo tricks counter weight the easiest to catch, and i don’t smack my knuckles like with the dice.
Im guessing our issues will naturally resolve itself with practice…or a new throw🤩

I went to the local Target today for the first time in about a month. They usually have at least 4 or 5 of the new Butterfly XTs for sale, sometimes quite a few more. My plan was to pick one up in a color I don’t have, but they were sold out of yoyos. I thought this was cool, and I’m hoping a bunch of people are discovering yoyo during their downtime. I’m also wondering if the social media stuff that’s been going on lately with yoyo content is having some influence on yoyo sales.

In so anticipant of things returning to the norm. I signed on to be a demonstrator for the Duncan Scout Program and had really been looking forward to this opportunity(and still am). I love camping and being outdoors, not to mention to throw.
Any word on the “state of things” as far as returning to regular scout outings @bjardin?

Weird 5A-ing experience - each time the counterweight collides with the yoyo, the bearing suddenly needs to get cleaned as the bearing seemingly gets some kind of grit in it. Multiple cleanings later, same thing seems to happen…I guess incentive not to drop the yoyo or let the weight smack it?

might be a bearing problem or it could be a problem where the bearing seat is too dirty.
see if it happens after you’ve cleaned the bearing seat and have swapped out the bearing

definetly with pewdiepie and even logan paul id bet that kids have gotten a yoyo to play with during boredom time (esp cuz ann connolly and many other yoyoers that are rlly good at yoyoing posted on pewdiepies reddit)
