I have been playing with my Duncan Crescendo recently, and I noticed for the last two strings I changed on it, I have replaced it because of strands snapping near the bearing. ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex015/uploads/yoyoexpert1/original/4X/a/9/8/a983d19ffa6467fcec665eb859ef9360f901b44e.jpeg) I have this issue with 2 or 3 other yo-yos where I find the string starts fraying there faster. Is there something I can do about this to slow it down or stop it? Most likely a sharp bur on the response near the pads. Rub some denim around the lip of the response where the string might rub to smooth out whatever is cutting string ---

Usually this happens on heavily sand-blasted or moonrock finishes, which you can help minimize by rubbing the seats on some worn in denim. Dont know if this is the case for your duncan, but it might be worth a shot. Good luck and happy throwing! Edit: Oh, the capt. beat me to it! ---

I just used a pair of jeans, and it seems to have not snapped a strand as fast. Granted, I will probably need to use it for longer, but it seems to be working. Thank You ---

jeans take a long time. I have used the soft wheel and polish that comes with a dremel to polish rough catch zones successfully before (my Hideyoshi) ---

You can also use leather instead of denim ---

I’ve used 2000 grit sandpaper but I said Denim cause I figured you don’t want to mess up the ano or anything and sanding the rim will remove material I like to recommend start least impactful and then if needed work backwards with more impactful action till you hit a resolution You can’t add back material once it’s been sanded off ---

I agree with this, the dremel compound is 400 grit so going with denim first, then leather, 2k grit, etc., before resorting to something stronger like dremeling it. Depending on desired result. The Hideyoshi just had a very rough blast or something and sanding it with the 400 grit didn’t change the appearance at all, just stopped wearing down strings faster/cutting them.
