# Fixed metel axle cutting strings

Hi, I have an old duncan fixed metal axle that is breaking strings within about 3 throws. Is there a way to replace the axle or fix it?

What is it?

You could use some fine grit sandpaper and see if that takes care of it.

I’ve never heard of a duncan metal axle cutting strings. Are you sure it’s the axle? The rim edges could be rough and cutting the string. Or is the axle rusted? How does it look if you shine a lite in the gap?

It’s a pink velvet Duncan. looks like an Imperial. The axle does seem to be a bit rusted. Feels really good and actually sleeps alot longer than new imperials… then the string breaks.
