Yeah I’ve been running 2 of em this week on my eH’s (lost track of which was which). But they are both breaking in amazingly. At first neutral tension response was a little touch n go but it only took 30m of play to get perfect and consistent (even when I switch yoyos) and it’s stayed there. Neither seems really worn besides maybe a little sweaty lol. Have a freshy black one I have yet to try.
Best cotton I’ve thrown and i would include the treasured old school type 10 cone I used to twist from in that.

My understanding was that they were so hard to make that ZL wasn’t going to go forward with them as a product. Did they reverse that decision recently?

Not going to speak for @jeremypark, but there is a demand for boutique cotton that none of the other string makers are tapping into yet. Like any prototyping process it takes time, so far Zipline’s efforts are recieving high praise. I hadn’t ordered anything from Zipline in awhile, but I was interested in the Cottons, so while I was in line for the drop, I also added other items in my cart that I wouldn’t have purchased otherwise to make the shipping cost worth while. Even at the price point of $1.75 and $2.00 a piece they still all sold out rather quickly. I guess we’ll have to wait and see and like I aslo said

Nah. The stuff I used for “Cones to Balls” in 2009 was from Steve Brown and it was a vintage cone of twisted string like they used to use in the 60’s. It was really wonderful crisp, thick stuff and it turned me on to type 10. Honestly, I don’t even remember seeing type 10 available before that. Just 4x2 & 3x3.

I acquired a 2nd cone of it after mine was used up. I sent most of that one to @jrodriguez many moons ago. I know Kyle Weems had another similar one. I would love to find something like that again, as twisting the string is meditative and I got really efficient at it. But as I said, if I can score more of this Zipline stuff, I’ll be all about it!

Seems like fixie play really begins with stalls. So maybe learn the trapeze stall and go from there?

I agree with this. Unless you are new to yoyoing in general, id start with getting your trapeze and brother stalls smooth. Focus on getting to be focused and predictable with the yoyo you are using. It also doesn’t hurt to practice the basic classic tricks like shoot the moon and other responsive-derived tricks. Modern responsive play is more stall based than sleeper based, but you can do whatever your style wants in limited measure tbh.

Right. I bring my raw Legend wing outside when I walk with the cat and it’s a joy to throw a natural material after aluminum, aluminum, aluminum, and just see how many reps of Hop the Fence I can do or Forward Pass and just simple stuff I can do while walking and not staring at my hands. I guess I need to be more well-rounded but when it comes to fixed I love the bliss of one-handedness.

You guys are the best.
I would never have guessed at starting with stalls. I’ve already tried trapeze but as soon as it lands on the string it wants to return and tangles up.
I’ll get onto the tutorials and take it from there, thanks again i’m sure i’ll be back.

just a couple i got of YYE the last time i ordered new yoyos. A very nice looking Legend (in cherry)and an imperial shaped one. I’ve also got one i’ve had for quite a while which i’m not sure about called Lightning.

One brief question before i get to the tutorials, string. I’ve oodells of different poly strings. What i’m reading suggests cotton is prefered. Is this a preference thing or a more practical thing ?
I’m following the self isolation guidelines at the minute so i’m only going to work and food shopping. The yoyo shop is not in the right direction.
Does cotton make a big difference ?

Cotton is preferred because the high friction incurred by fixed axle play can melt through poly strings.

Although that really isn’t as big a factor with today’s poly strings OR today’s stall-based fixed axle tricks. For me it’s much more a feel thing than anything else. How the string breaks in and wraps/holds the axle is really important when there’s no bearing acting as a buffer. But just use what feels good to you.
