Jon Gates made, possibly the first fixed axle with dimples. Maybe 2 years ago he made them, can’t remember what he called it, but it’s a killer yo-yo. First thing I tried was fingerspins, only way I could do them was a fingerspin tape measure type thing.

Colin also helped to design (or did design, can’t remember which now) the One Drop Project.
Colin has also designed some dimple caps for his yoyos too.

What’s the life expectancy of a cotton string on a wood fixie(time or throws)? I’ve got some YYE bulk cotton and just want to be sure I don’t pitch my new throw beyond that point.

Life expectancy is similar to that of cheaper bulk poly on an unresponsive. It depends on how smooth the axle and walls are though.

Those things are sturdy. Snapped a string and sent my purpleheart Irving into a wall. They hold up! Lol.

I really didn’t know what to expect from it, but, it was an excellent value. Plays great, maybe my favorite part is for the split second on a regen when the yoyo stops spinning and you can see the laminations

I agree, these laminated wood yoyos have such a unique feeling an appearance. For the same reason, I’d love to get my hands on a laminated no jive or eh some day!

It’s called purpleheart. It’s the natural color of this wood. So nice. Soooooo hard too!

I made this one last week out of some oak I had.
I was working on maximizing spin time with a fixed axle. It’s quite large in diameter but not as heavy as you might expect. It spins wonderfully long and is dead smooth. I was worried about how it would feel on the return but the gap width is perfect for my finger, so it sort of just settles back into the hand.
It was a fun experiment!

Very nice @GizzmoTheGreat. I love it! Not an easy shape to turn so symmetrically either.
