I got an Apollo Pro in the mail and it feels as if the axle is splintered. It’s still glued in on both sides but it twists and crackles a fair amount. I’m going to try my hand at replacing that bad boy and my question is not a how to so much as… what material makes the toughest replacement axle? Also if anyone did just so happen to throw some advice out there I would certainly not object to it. 😃

I have a Trickster with the same kind of problem, but I haven’t fixed it yet, but I hear walnut is good for axles!

There is a link to a NoJive tune up vid that @edhaponik posted in the TK appreciation thread but it doesn’t seem to work now.
I have been experimenting with trying to get a couple butterfly TKs a bit more tug responsive for a smooth but snappy return for practicing Shoot-the-Moon.
Any tips or links would be appreciated. Thanks

My optic star was perfect, and then decided to get sloppy. I have tried stickers, axle sanding, black magic…. Oh the joy of wood!
I think it might be a moon phase issue, will try again in a week.

Thinking about wood axles, which I really haven’t since sometime in the last century (rolls eyes)…
I’m thinking of Osage Orange wood, also Ironwood. Both are really tough. Osage Orange used to be made into bearings. Hickory gets used for tool handles in North America (except axe-makers in Quebec used Sugar Maple), where in Europe one might find Beechwood. Cocobolo would be nice looking but it’s the very devil to try to glue. Hazel might be good plus you’d be able to cast magic spells with it. 🙂
…and yes I’m starting to investigate wood for yoyos.

Little bit of balm (burts bee’s) on the end of my string got my Jive nice and snappy. I tried other things like a turbo disc, gaffer’s tape, hope…nope, balm was the best.

I was excited to see that Brad Countryman was still making these style yo yos for Tom Kuhn now. They’re calling it the Clean Tangerine Classic… Gotta get me a pair soon. I like the Rainbow Yo, and the more pocket-friendly shaped Lightning too.

I’ve tried the old Duncan string wax. Nope on it too. Weird. I read Chap Stick, and ended up grabbing Burts Bees for my yo yos too! Works and smells good.

I ordered a Clean Tangerine as well as a Woody. I mean at the price it’s just a no brainer. While I LOVE the look of the Rainbow… there’s a rather significant difference in price between vintage online and this new one. I don’t exactly dislike the color on the Tangerine it’s just the Rainbow is my favorite to look at. As long as the play is the same I’m great. Also $9.99 Woody… come on!!

The Rainbow does look awesome spinning, when all the colors meld into a dark brown. Such a striking difference. Interested to hear how the Tangerine plays. I’ve had the tab open for a month, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
