I have never been a fan of the No Jive. Until I got better at yoyoing and picked it up again. I figured out it was not the No Jive, it was me. I now understand the No Jive much better. Almost any yoyo is a winner, you just need to figure out the ins and outs of it and adjust to its unique ways.

So much truth in that.
In my experience you learn a lot about yourself through imposing limitations. You start to recognize that what you thought of as “good and bad” don’t apply evenly. A PRS w super low action won’t help you so much if you’re after the feeling and sound of a Martin acoustic. It’s just different. And even further, every session (and every throw WITHIN a session) is its own discreet moment and really defies comparison. We just try to really hard to shoehorn things into that framework because what would we even talk about if we’re not what’s “great” and what’s “terrible”.
The more you acclimate to a yoyo that has some peculiarities/“limitations”, the more you kind of expose your own tendencies by stripping away the variables. I feel like the growth that comes from that is a big part of what I get from throwing yoyo (and fixed axle, specifically).

What string is are people using on their wooden fixed axles? I’ve been using Alphaline on my plastic butterflies the past several months and love it. I play primarily 0A so I like a nice snappy response. What do people recommend?

I use the yoyoexpert type 10 cotton string on my wooden axles, but I’ve. Heard people swear by zipline’s kotn string.

I struggle a little with the silk/cotton, I found it best double looped in looper style fixed axles but struggle with using it in regular 0a.
For 0a I love pollen and for bearing/plastic/metal axles my absolute favorite is Tincture, the nylon/silk blend. Those are just so good.
