The response pads in my Wizard seemed to be shrinking up and getting very slippy. I popped them out to replace them and thats when I realized they weren’t a standard 19mm slim pad 🤦 the correct pads aren’t available anywhere I can find right now. So this is where the experiment starts. I’ve seen the flowable silicone/gasket maker technique here, but I do auto glass for a living and have access to windshield urethane. I decided im going to try it out. Maybe it’ll be a little tougher then silicone and last a little longer. 🤷🏻 Did I fix my Wizard, did I ruin my Wizard? Time will tell!

Yo let us know how it goes for sure. I am a silicone fan for my response, shoutout permatex gear oil, and I am always interested in new response materials. I do think it is worth experimenting with so yeah I support the mission. I can’t tell exactly but did you put a pretty deep recess in there? Also finding a more durable response material would be great so I am curious. Usually tougher means more slippy so that would be my hesitation but yeah def worth trying.

I’ll update for sure. I’m going to give it a couple days to be really sure it’s cured before I string it up. I recessed it under the edges just a bit, not a ton. It is hard to tell in that picture lol

When I’ve siliconed a yoyo, I realized too late that if the silicone isn’t level, it can make bumps that translates to vibe that is felt on the string, but not the rims of the yoyo. Something to be aware of if you run into it.

This goes away pretty quick usually like once the sili breaks in

Is clear permatex harder that most other flowable silicones? Thats what I used, and after 1-2 hours on it I dug it out and used some OT pads. Should I have given it more time?

No clear is pretty soft but yeah you should have given it more time and it would have smoothed itself out on its own. You can also like just bind a lot and that will make the process go quicker.

</div>

Well the verdict is this aint the answer 😅 it worked really good for about 20 minutes until the string polished the surface of the urethane. Now it just slips. This should be fun to dig back out of here lol

Well I got lucky and they actually peeled out in 1 piece! Shame it didn’t work because they were definitely adhered in there.

Maybe hit up OD’s email? Their store said they were out of stock a couple days ago, but I doubt they are out out. There are also other pages on here that have lots of options.

> Hello everyone, First of all thanks to @mable to introduce me to this silicone (which also has better pictures), second sorry for my awful pictures and application I did not used silicone from ages. Let’s start from the beginning: I used to use the Motorsil D while living in Italy, it was a quite good silicone and quite unresponsive also easy to apply, moved in London I had to start use pads cause impossible to find that silicone here. From pads I always felt that I had quite an harsh respon…

For future reference silicone gasket maker does work great and there’s a ton of fine tuning that can be done between the different hardnesses and elasticity of the different silicones and then experimenting with recess depth/ no recess. Pads are absolutely more convenient though…just wanted to share that in case you can’t find the od pads in the future or enjoy the tinkering.

I do enjoy the tinkering, I’ll probably continue to play around with this in the future. I have a Shu-Ta that came with red rtv in it already that works great.
