Not too long ago I hit my dm on the ground and a 1 mm gap formed on about a third of one side. It doesn’t affect the play once so ever, but I was just curious if this gap could cause any problems in the future, like causing the metal to separate completely from the plastic. How do they attach the metal to the plastic anyways?

I believe it’s a press fit. Probably not a lot to worry about. If it’s a big concern maybe a drop of super glue will assuage your fears.

The exact same thing happened to my almost new SR-71. I just pressed the pieces back together as hard as I could until I couldn’t see light between them.
