# Dif-E-Yo Konkave ball count?

Does anyone know how many balls are in the Dif-E-Yo Konkave bearings? I’ve never bought one by itself, but I have a few that (I believe) originally came out of Duncan models like the Bassacuda and Echo 2 back in 2015. Today I noticed that two of them are 10-ball, but one of them is an 8-ball. None of them have any bearing shields, and I don’t recall removing any. The 10-ball versions are _much_ quieter and longer-spinning than the 8-ball, and now I’m wondering which of these variants I’m going to get if I order more Size C Konkaves from YoYoExpert’s store. Perhaps I’m just mistaken that Duncans have included Dif-E-Yo bearings in the first place, and it’s some other concave bearing?

Duncan got a license from Frank, it’s the cheapest way to get a konkave and a throw. I think I even got a half spec bearing with the package.

Really wondering why two of these have ten balls, then… unless Dif-E-Yo has different versions of the size C bearing? I don’t believe I have any other Yo-Yos these could be from other than the Duncan models, which currently have CTX bearings swapped in from my CLYWs.

Like Grendel said, Duncan licensed the use of concave bearings. This does not mean they are using the exact bearings Difeyo uses, it just means they licensed the use of the patented shape. They could be concave from another manufacturer or vendor.

I’ve gotten 8 & 10 in my Duncan throws. Most were 8 but the GrasshopperGTX had a 10.(and orbital as well I think). When I’ve ordered extra parts from Duncan, I’ve received 8 ball.

That makes sense, thank you. I really like these 10-ball concaves, so it’s a bit of a bummer if there’s no way to definitively buy more of the same ones.

Interesting… the three throws I own that must have included the concaves are the Bassacuda, Echo 2 and Flipside. No idea which one had the 8-ball.

I’ve never found 10 to be any better than 8 ball bearings, I’ve had excellent performing bearings from both groups. It really depends on the manufacturing tolerances, and in that respect I think NSK does it best. And after checking, NSK concave are 8-ball like Difeyo. Not saying that 10-balls won’t be good or anything, just that the number isn’t what makes them good.

I’ve had more maintenance issues with the 10’s. And I agree with @YoYoExpertGarrett, they don’t perform any better than the 8 IMO.

I actually ordered one of these to try it out just the other day! I’ve heard nothing but good things about them and I’m quite curious. I’m all too familiar with how much manufacturing tolerances, bearing newness, bearing maintenance, lube etc. can affect performance and sound. I’ve just been interested in what’s going on with these particular concaves I have, because the 10 ball ones I have are just nicer than the 8 ball I’ve got.

Sorry for going off topic here…but in your guy’s experience does the gold on the NSKs wear out quickly? I’ve had some cheap gold plated bearings where the gold didn’t last long at all.

Mine have been holding up, but I don’t throw them daily as they are in some special throws. In my experience the Gold play smoother and quieter than the Platinum.
