> Wow, you work fast! Do you prefer white cubes or black ones? I prefer darker color puzzles, except I discovered that I love an ivory color. Something is appealing about those off-white colored puzzles. It’s odd, but I love them. I’d say I like them in this order:
>
> 1. Black
> 2. Ivory
> 3. Transparent
> 4. White
>
> Then all other colors relatively equal after that. I have a few blue, yellow, pink, and green colored cubes.
>
> Also, I noticed that white cubes seem smoother. Maybe it’s something about the white plastic, but they feel better as the turning of the cube seems smoother to me.
>
> As for that 11x11, it is a knockoff that’s out there on the market. Similar to yo-yos, they end up out in the wild, and sometimes you get hold of them before you know better. Then, at that stage, it’s not legit to sell it off. But, Vcube will release a legit one in due time. Wait for that one.

i can pretty much only stand black cubes. my recognition is best

I forgot to add that, tied with black would be the stickerless Dayan style cubes, where there is no real cube color at all…just all colored plastic.

Thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I’ll try the shengshou when I move to the 8x8. Which ( knowing myself) won’t take long.

I was able to move a few of those puzzles on my BST thanks to a nice gentleman ;D Oh, and I added a ShengEn FII last night, black 3x3x3, smooth and bubbly shaped cube…new and sealed in the box. I’m downsizing things in general. I’m going to add a diamond shaped puzzle, but it’s not really a complete diamond…it’s weird. 😛

I’d say definitely go for a Dayan cube over a vcube, they are much cheaper and better imo. The most popular are the zhanchi and the guhong v2. i have them both. I think I like my guhong better but it’s all preference.

I own 3 Rubik’s. I took a chance and bought several at once. I lucked out and got a smooth one out of the bunch. The other two I had to break in. I actually took some craft sticks (look like popsicle sticks) and wedged them between the layers to loosen them up. It worked too. I just left the cubes like that overnight. I saved that smooth one and put it aside. Just annoying that you can’t tension those cubes though. But, I hear they are not made for speedcubers anyway.

But, for those who recommend the Dayan cubes, they are great, especially the stickerless options. I like the Dayan Lingyun too. Can’t go wrong with any Dayan.

you can still speedcube with a rubik’s brand, just most people prefer other faster, better cubes. but I agree they aren’t as much for speedcubing, I use mine for practice for accuracy.

I’ve always wanted to try a lingyun, how is it? compared to the guhong and zhanchi?

Eh, I don’t really like stickerless. They’re not actually legal at events, and imho they don’t look or feel as good as stickered.
I agree though, I like my guhong better than my zhanchi. They can both cut corners like you wouldn’t believe, but I like the feel of the guhong a little more.

@hemisphere: what method are you trying?

Yeah I think speedcubes now, at least from dayan are all great, so the “best” is really just what feel you like.

My favorite cube was definitely the Dayan Zhanchi. I love my Shenghen FII as well, but sometimes if feels out of control, even with a pretty high tension. Rubiks cubes are great if you just add a bit of CRC Heavy Duty silicone and work it in. After a few solves, it’s definitely capable of speed solving. You just need to rough it up a bit so the core gets more “flexible” and it doesn’t pop on you.

My f2 popped too much for my liking, and if I tightened the tensions any it couldn’t preform well. and I do enjoy using my rubik’s brand sometimes. It’s a good warm up cube and a good cube to take to school and let people scramble it. haha people think for some reason if they grip the cube really hard and just kinda move their hands it will scramble so well… think again people lol.

a faster cube won’t necessarily make you faster. There are people who can solve a rubiks brand cube in under 10 seconds. If you don’t have the fundamentals down, a speed cube will probably just make your technique more sloppy, as you don’t have to worry as much about lining up sides to turn. Cuttings corners is great, but you should be able to solve a cube quickly without having to rely on your cube’s abilities to do so. The guhong is great, don’t get me wrong. It’s what I started with actually. I’m just saying that it’s not as much the cube as it is the cuber. If you don’t have it already, pick up some CRC silicone spray, jigaloo, or shock oil. It makes even the stiffest of cubes fast.

I agree big time, but once you get down under 20 seconds, you can tell a difference in times between a rubik’s and a dayan cube, so for the most part its the cuber, but once your fast, finding the cube for you that helps you perform to the best of your ability can help a little.

oh, definitely. I’d say even when you get under a minute you can. Dayan cubes cut corners phenomenally better than a store bought rubiks, and you should get a cube that fits your style of cubing. But getting fundamentals down is also a good idea.

agreed. I practice with a shengshou wind and a rubik’s brand cube. It’s good practice and warm up, especially when I’m tired in the mornings and the dayan cubes are just too much.
