When The Museum of Yo-Yo History was founded in 1995, its primary focus was preserving history—not just collecting yo-yos. History was paramount. Much of this history was at risk of being lost as older demonstrators, who held valuable knowledge, passed away. We worked to document and protect as much authentic history as possible before it disappeared. Unfortunately, counterfeits and fakes occasionally surface, especially for high-value items. For example, in the early 2000s, many fake original Flores yo-yos were being sold. Sometimes, myths emerge to explain items that never actually existed, often assembled from unrelated parts. These distortions compromise the integrity of the yo-yo collecting hobby and history, making it harder to separate fact from fiction. The museum remains committed to identifying and exposing fakes whenever they are discovered. The fakes recently are at a different level.
