Hello there, good day, I’m a beginner and a newbie in this site. I’m using yoyos from the brand, Magicyoyo.
I use their K2 Crystal, I sometimes yeet it to the floor, and I just recently bought their Yo3 Hertz.
I don’t have any knowledge about any yoyo brands or anything in particular. Do you have insights about their yoyo quality?
Also, please feed me tips for managing yoyo control and string control. I can only do a normal bind where I plop the Yoyo frontside onto a string and tug it. I think my main problem when practicing is the Yoyo ocassionally tilts and then lose spin. I also sometimes having a hard time landing on a string. I’d love to practice frontstyle tricks. Thank you.

Welcome to the community! Never threw a Crystal but looks like you picked out a decent starter throw. I’ve thrown similar shapes and they were pretty good. Magicyoyos are known for being pretty affordable and many get recommended to beginners esp if they’re looking for their first metal without breaking the bank, and something they won’t be too mad about when they ding it.
There’s a lot of brands out there as you’ve seen, a few larger brands that have been around for a long while (Duncan, Yoyofactory, One Drop, Caribou Lodge) and there are smaller “boutique” brands. Honestly, there’s a lot of fantastic yoyos out there, it’s hard to make a bad choice. It’s all about trying out different yoyo shapes and weights to see what you like. That’ll come over time as you find your technique. Of course, you could also jump on the “modern responsive” wave as a secondary playstyle to learn (Heavily biased modern responsive player here).
This said, if your yoyo is hitting the ground, I’d double check your string size. Many also have preferences of lengths. I like mine just above belly button height. Not too long but not too short. The longer the string, the more difficult it will be to control.
Tilt - it’ll come with practice with cleaner, straighter throws. Hand alignment is also key when you’re trying to do something like Trapeze - your yoyo will have more success landing and staying upright if your hands are on the same plane as each other. If they’re off, the yoyo will tilt. You can also deliberately move hands slightly off plane to correct tilt.
Best of luck! I recommend going through the trick lists here. If you’re comfortable binding, go with that. Otherwise, I’d say go responsive (assuming your yoyo came with a slimmer bearing) so you can focus on throwing technique and control and work toward that bind.

Thank you. I’m currently practicing that Zipper trick so that I get accustomed to hitting strings and catching the Yoyo. Although I often throw a crooked one.

Hello, and welcome to YYE. There is an app called “Skill Addicts” which teaches yoyo, spintop, kendama, freestyle footbag and juggling. Really good app and has a skill tree in which you can advance through increasing levels of tricks. There are also custom tricks that are uploaded by users from around the world and a really good source for learning.
