# Cheap yoyo for fingerspins?

I have been looking in amazement at the SHFX and telling myself that as a hybrid with metal rims… surely it must have miraculous spin power. So I would love to hear your comparison thoughts @HappyYoyoer once you’ve had some time with it. I actually just hit 2 decent ones in a row. I agree that the Shooting Star does spin very nicely with a clean landing. Something in the timing of when you sit the yo-yo on your finger is giving me trouble. I think I’m honing in on it though. I realize you need to level it just like a top. Once that clicked I started getting a smoother touchdown. Trying to figure out how to maneuver the string while keeping the yo-yo spinning has also been giving me a fit. I think I’m on a good course though. Once I can land it 3 times in a row, I’ll try getting a video… and everything I’ve worked to achieve will come to nothing. 🤣

Honestly, I hold your opinion in the highest regard and it seems that many others also agree. In no way do I have a negative opinion of the Shooting Star, quite the opposite in fact. I just didn’t have anything to compare it to and I really appreciate everyone’s input. I know Alex, that you have tested quite a number of them and I will just continue to work on it with the Shooting Star while my fingernail slowly grows. 🤣

Just came!!
This thing is fast!
And finger spin wise, I think it might be better than the shooting star… not by a ton though
The dimple is super deep, it basically had a lip of its own, so you can tail end grind n stuff SUPER easily front the finger spin dimple.
It also has an AMAZIng lip for thumb grinds!
It’s super smooth too
I love it!

The best results ive had so far are magicyoyo v10, speedaholic fx/xx and the scintillator/speedaholic mn/myy v12

The best I’ve ever used is a Czech Point Pivot, with the Shooting Star being second. Interestingly, the mechanics of locking the finger spin are different on each. The former works best if you put your finger toward the edge and let it tilt onto your finger; the latter will never lock this way, but does much better with pulling it onto your finger with the string.
I’ve never used one, but both Offset Cheatcodes look amazing for finger spins (idk if they’re as good all-around performers as either of the above mentions, though).

You’re basically there. It looks like you just need to be spinning faster when you make it on your finger. If you can hop the yoyo into the fingerspin you’ll lose less spin time. You can also work on it by starting in a horizontal pull start; that should let you keep the yoyo spinning pretty fast.

I find using a side arm breakaway style throw is infinitely easier than the cross body throw you’re doing here. Also, use a banana turn over to let the yoyo level out more. If there is a dimple you want the yoyo level if no dimple you want it at an angle. You want me show you in a video?

I posted an update video on the Post a Trick thread. It’s not as clumsy but I admit I’m using the most rudimentary method of catching it. @TryCatchThrow i want to eventually move toward hopping it up… but I am a terrible catch and getting to that point consistently is going to take some major time. 🤣🤣

Here ya go. Using V2 Joyride which has a unique dimple with raised area around it. You can fingerspin in the dimple or around the dimple. In the first throw I use a lower angle side arm throw along with a banana turnover to get the yoyo almost level before I pop it up and land it in the dimple. With the second throw I use a higher angle side arm throw and swing it directly into the pop up and catch/spin around the dimple. Notice that there isn’t really a “pop” motion with either of these, rather it’s more of a fluid motion and the yoyo never stops moving.

I like the front style throw because it lets you do a regular laceration to initiate the DNA. Looks a lot cleaner.

I can’t get nearly as much power with front style though and find the bind less predictable and more sensitive. I have elbow issues too and it hurts to even practice a hard throw like that so I’m probably biased.

The trick with the bind is to bring your hand closer to the yoyo than you probably think you need to as you whip it, otherwise it’s difficult to get it in position for the DNA before the yoyo bites.
