Oh, the things I would do just to be able to dig through your yoyo cabinet and pick your brain on every little detail. This thing looks amazing! Thatā€™s my grail, now. Iā€™ve been racking my brain trying to come up with a grail. I knew Iā€™d know it when I see it. Am I bummed that my grail is unobtainable? No. I think thatā€™s what makes it a grail, right? ---

Seems like a lot of folks could be qualified to synthesize those two throws (albeit maybe not w Mitchā€™s unique mojo). ---

This is cotton and trilobal poly and plays nice. It needs to be a tad thicker, with more cotton than poly. Iā€™ll be giving that a shot later today when I get a chance. This is also a bit looser of a wind than your average Throw-Yo string, but still tighter than what youā€™d normally get with a Butterfly. Iā€™m thinking of calling these Nectars. I bought a few simple colors of cotton: white, cream, grey, and black. Those, combined with the colors of poly I have, should make for some interesting combinations. ---

I have some recommended edits and additions for the 2021 butterflies: - _ā€œ2021- New mold for the Contemporary Butterfly, these have a 6 letter code compared to the previous 5.ā€_ ā€” **This was an initial rumor that didnā€™t end up being substantiated. Did you ever cut apart an original wooden butterfly? I keep seeing people say they were one piece, but all Iā€™ve seen have not been. The ones I own have glued in axles. Also, in my research looks like 1956 was the first year of the Butterfly, from old newspaper ads. ---

I have never had one come apart, and at this point they are becoming antiques, even though I play them still, I have one mint one and it has a rough cut response similar to a Legend Wing. The Yoyo Museum has them listed as One piece wood and that seems to be the standard out of Wisconsin. 1958 is also the Date that @rickbr listed in the museum. I do have a smaller advertising wood butterfly that is Three Piece however form the sixties. The 2004 and 2016 reproductions are Three Piece and do fall apart due to dried out glue. The back of this No. 707 B card does not have any printing while No. 707 has printing. Perhaps the ā€œBā€ meant ā€œblankā€ or ā€œblank backā€. Duncan literature from this time period suggests that it stood for bagged or poly-bagged. The yo-yo model is identical for both versioned cards. Originally sold for 69Ā¢. Blue lacquer with aluminum flecked finish. "About mid 1962 or early 1963, Duncan began to make the change from using three digit product stock numbers to four digits. They also switched over from using polybags to bubble carded product. As such, it is fairly easy to date these early poly-bagged Duncan yo-yos. The Duncan Butterfly was first released in 1958. A yo-yo demonstrator named Wayne Lundberg introduced the idea for reversing the traditional tournament-shaped wooden halves and making a yo-yo that had a wider string gap. The wider gap helped kids perform more complex string tricks. While the actual Butterfly design has been around since 1878 [(see patent 207527, by William Katz, for ā€œImprovement in bandelore toyā€, August 27, 1878)](https://patents.google.com/patent/US207527A/en?oq=207527), Duncan was the first company to actually mass produce them. The Butterfly yo-yo was changed by Duncan from wood to plastic in 1968. In the words of Bob Rule, long time yo-yo player and last demonstrator on Duncanā€™s payroll, ā€œProbably the advancement I see the most is the Butterfly invented by Wayne Lundberg.
