Hey guys, few summers ago I picked up a mini jet lathe 1014 that was on sale at my local Rockler. I never wound up getting a chuck until just now. I’ve been doing some silicone recess mods, easy stuff. I’m sure I could go back to Rockler to get the answer to my question but what is the tool I see guys using that gives you precise cuts? It looks like you turn a couple wheels and it moves a mounted blade, looks like what I’d need if I was going to press fit some rims or something. Basically any advice in what I should get for yoyo (more advanced) modding would be greatly appreciated! ---

I believe the piece you are talking about is a standard tool mount on a metal lathe. I don’t know if anything is available for a wood lathe, which I think is all Rockler sells. I see, thank you! Yeah I can’t seem to find anything other than metal turning lathes and parts when I search so maybe I’m out of luck. Thankfully I didn’t get the lathe with only yoyos in mind. I’ll keep looking though! ---

It’s a totally different kind of lathe, I’ve never seen a cross slide for a wood lathe. You can make precise cuts with wood turning tools, it just requires a lot more patience, care and measuring. ---

Yeah I had no idea it’d be that different. My recess’ are definitely clean, I just wouldn’t trust myself doing a hub replacement or something by hand. All good. Read your guide and it doesn’t look like a metal lathe setup is crazy money, something to save for. Thanks for the input though guys, I was wasting a good bit of time looking for a part that doesn’t really exist haha.
