I was thinking of getting a premium metal yoyo on yoyo day when there are sales, and was wondering what you would recommend. For reference, the metal yoyo im using right now is a shortcut. ---

For stuff that’ll be readily available, I’d suggest a Dressel Designs Emotion from @hobbygod. If you could get your hands on a G2 from @G2_Jake, I’d go with that. ---

I second the Emotion recommendation. It is hard to put the yo-yo down. Shortcut is very good I wouldn’t worry about upgrading unless you wanna cop a bimetal or something. Yoyofriends nucleon is getting a rerelease with new colors soon. One of my favorites. If you did wanna cop a deal, yyf moonlight is good and on sale with the a-May-zing deals. ---

Another vote for the emotion. A more budget friendly mono os yoyofriends gravitony. Different feel than the shortcut. A slight price increase to go from 6061 to 7068. ---

I would get a Mk1 Brass Exia, its a great bimetal that is very beginner friendly, meaning it is very stable even when you mess up, its nice and wide, comfortable in the hand, spins longer then most yoyos, its made out 7068 aluminum w/ brass rims. I consider this my top performing yoyo and i have some ive paid well over $200 for. And Mk1 is having a sale on 5-18 because its Mark’s Birthday 🎂 He is the owner and designer of Mk1. ---

Is there anything you like about the shortcut or anything you particularly don’t like? I could try to give you a decent recommendation based on your preferences! I like smaller throws so I generally gravitate towards things from 52-54 mm in diameter just because I feel like they are more comfortable and they play a little quicker IMO. if you are going premium I’d have to say anything from One Drop is pretty great, because of their popularity lots of reviews for you to rely on. If it’s your first higher-end yoyo id stay away from bi-metal they can take a bit to adjust to. if you haven’t used the yyf shutter that is such an excellent yoyo IMO, I cant give it enough praise, I have had mine since 2016 and it is still smooth as butter like it was the day I got it. ---

Probably something with a blasted finish that’s decently heavy like the short cut, also something that could do grinds really well. A 54-55 diameter sounds good. Also one drop seems like a good option but anytime I check out their stuff I’m interested in it’s always sold out. ---

If you’re looking for a premium monometal I would go for the Dressel Designs Emotion, the C3 Krown 7075, or the Inferno Yoyos Sonar. All of them rock for different reasons but they’re all as good as you can get for a monometal. Ps you might also like the Yoyofriends Graviton:y but i haven’t tried it. Everyone else seems to like it though! On the bimetal side I am legally obligated (not really, but it feels like it) to recommend the Plasma Crash for your diameter preferences. It’s the offspring of my favorite yoyo (the C3 Hydrogen Crash) but with a smaller diameter and thicker rims. You might want to check that one out. ---

At first throw, gravitony resembles the emotion. After the first few minutes you realise it is a bit nore clunky or heavy. I think heavy is the better word since clunky usually has a negative connotation. While it has this heavier feeling (I find Emotion particularly agile and light but in a good way) it has the lowest spin time between the 2. ---

Mono metal pheasant is incredible if you wanna stay on the yoyofriends train. I’m guessing you want something that has more character to it, instead of maxing out on performance and going Bimetal. Check out One Drop on BST ! 🙂
