Yo-yo innovation will certainly continue based on new developments in materials and manufacturing. The most obvious outcome is higher quality at ever lower prices. A tangential track would be lowered prices making more experimental or niche designs feasible to produce.

Then there are possibilities that stem from new manufacturing techniques being invented or made cost effective for yo-yos that enable designs that are currently impossible.

Whether these innovations can improve performance is uncertain.

Being the baseball guy I am I had to respectfully chime in lol. The average person is only gonna hit a metal bat about 5 feet further than wood, especially nowadays where metal bats have been “nerfed” so to speak. And wood has gotten really really good. (Back in my day metal bats were stupid good, the sweet spot was literally anywhere on the bat lol). If you have nice swing, good contact and follow through you’re gonna hit it just as far with wood. Now for younger kids you can absolutely argue that because they’re still developing a swing and good mechanics, plus wood is usually a lot heavier. Sorry for the off topic response!

Hades my favorite Yoyo. I play it all the time. It just feels disingenuous to say it plays as fast as my lighter yo-yos bc it doesn’t. I don’t know maybe that’s user error tho. Hah! I will keep practicing osss

This is off topic but Wilson will soon release their new airless basketball. I wonder if it will take off and become a new basketball that can replace the current basketball design. I sometimes think people get too caught up in how a yoyo feels. I also, however, have preferences in how a yoyo feels: rock is righteous. 🪨

An innovation happened just recently but we were all too busy arguing to see.

One that comes to mind recently was the ZGRT Albrije.

I think its a cool modular design; Two differnt Bearing Size internals. Fixed or Responsive or Unreponsive. Side effects. Wood Body.

I thought we would see other bodies for it by now… 3D Printed… Different wood shapes…

As far as a big step change, I dont think we will see much.

Have Fun.

End of innovation?

Just wait until you guys see my new cutting-edge, dark-matter yo-yo. This thing literally changes gravity. Add to that my dark-energy powered bearings; and you have something so fabulously revolutionary that it hurts my head to even think about it.

Its gonna be fire!

i want to see mag lev bearings.

mag lev hub stack bearings and a mag lev Konkave. spin for days.

that’s innovative.

what could you come up with if the friction only came from the air, the string and your mistakes? bearing resistance is negligible.

enjoy the throw my friends

I can’t imagine magnets that are small enough but still strong enough to keep the bearing floating while withstanding the stress of combos

that will require…innovation. technological innovation.

which was the point of this thread, no?

we don’t have them now, but this is simply a theoretical ponderance on whether or not there is still innovation that can be achieved with respect to this hobby. i say yes.

the combos you could pull off would be insane.

Aerogel body/copper ring hybrids. @jeffreypang911 I’ll take a 000 in this configuration, feel free to monetize all other production.

Why not take it to the extreme tungsten rims. It’s not gonna be cheap and no idea how that’s gonna get machined but it’ll be the heaviest non radioactive and lightest material your gonna throw on a yoyo lol.

However I’ll go in on the aerogel copper 000 too lol maybe a fluvia too.

Coward! Lets use the densest radioactive material possible, make it oversized, and name it the Elephant’s Foot. Come on, a lil radiation’s worth the sick tricks right?
