I think products like the Legacy Peak benefit their brand’s cachet and they know that, that’s what I mean by halo product. Having very desirable products like it help keep CLYW in the spotlight as a cool brand and serve as promotion for all of their other yoyos and products. You could be right. There is a nod there to people who want it to remain limited. FWIW, my interpretation is that there is appreciation for the enthusiasm for the Peak and its place in CLYW history, but they would rather people be excited about their new designs. ---

To put some minds at ease: Two orders were backdoored. One for a 28 Stories Legacy Peak and that was my fault…I accidentally published to Facebook/Instagram for about 1 minute and a half and in that time someone saw it there and bought it. My own fault so I let it slide. Another was for a P3AK, and that was someone actually rooting around in the JSON and figuring out how to add something to their cart while the countdown was still active. I messaged them and said they could keep the order if they explained exactly how they did it, and I considered that a “white hat hacker” sort of arrangement. My other company is working on a Shopify app that allows you to publish individual variants instead of entire products and once that’s through the approvals process it should solve this problem nicely. In the meantime I just don’t publish inventory until the actual drop time. As for the bots, I haven’t seen any evidence of widespread botting. There have been a couple orders here and there that had me narrowing my eyes but without hard evidence there wasn’t anything for me to do about it. Shopify has built-in protections for these things but only if you spring for a Shopify Plus plan which is like $2,500/month. We aren’t even close to the kind of volume that would justify that. Maybe in a few years, if all goes to plan, but that _maybe_ is doing some heavy-lifting. I’m really grateful for the wild amount of support y’all have shown us on our 20th anniversary here. It’s been really humbling and inspiring to see how we’re regarded after two decades of art nerds doing art nerd stuff. We have a couple more surprises up our sleeves before the year is out, hopefully we can get them into as many hands as possible. Love y’all. ---

I keep a lot of yoyos handy so I rotate through 3-4 models constantly. But heaviest rotation lately has been all the Peaks (P3AK, p3ak, Legacy Peak) and Summit 2. I spent the weekend at a wedding and only brought an Everyday and the new Chupacabra prototype, which was an interesting combo. Non-Caribou stuff that I’ve been throwing lately includes the Wizard (One Drop), Slap JR (Jake Bullock), and a vintage wooden Duncan Butterfly from the 60s.
