apple feels like a golden cage to me. The quality is certainly great but I don’t like being forced to use everything from apple to enjoy the full benefits. Android gives you more freedom and is less expensive. In the end, both have something going for them and I think it depends a lot on habit and preference. ---

Yeah honestly it’s all preference, not a lot of people switch because they think their side is the right one, but it’s all just preference and what youve always had, and it’s just hard to switch from one to another because they feel so different ---

What about CheckRa1n? if you have iPhone 4S to iPhone 8 and X then that is also \< 20 seconds to get in. Even if apple wont get into Iphones for the government the NSO group probably will lol I like the idea that android could be hardened to suit the users needs rather than trusting apple to do it. but both are bad in their own ways. the garbage that vendors build into android sucks. client side scanning makes me never want to touch apple & windows ever again though. ---

Currently Android is my preferred. I made the switch two, maybe three years ago after growing kind of tired of iOS. It felt stale to me in a way. More, stagnant, I guess you could say… Every year, every iteration, the same interface, very minimal incremental updates. It just felt like everything was at a stand-still. Like, ok, they are adding “some features” but everything is the same as it was 10 years ago when they moved away from the skeuomorphism interface… Like, I don’t know man… just tired of it. There hasn’t been much that’s really wow’d me I guess. The hardware is remarkable, but the software-side just doesn’t take advantage of the hardware, like, at all… I have found that some of the non-app store apps on android greatly enhance the functionality and add services that weren’t once available elsewhere. I also like the customization aspect. Niagra Launcher is my go-to homescreen and it’s absolute bliss! It’s just fantastic minimalism at it’s finest. That said though, there are MANY things I love about iOS over Android, but there are also things I like about Android that iOS either doesn’t have, or makes it difficult to use. Admittedly, the newest version of iOS is darn good, but I am not convinced enough to switch back currently. There are a few things on Android that are keeping me from going back. Especially when phones like the Sony Xperia exist. A headphone jack, SD card expansion, dedicated dual step shutter button (which apple just borrowed from in the iPhone 16) an optical zoom and more pro photography features than you could shake a stick at is just REALLY hard to beat. For some context - I was a diehard Apple fan for years, I even have an Apple tattoo and have written for a few high-profile Apple web blogs over the years, so making the switch to Android was not something I did on a whim. I really had to think about it. As of right now, I’m content with my setup but, maybe some day I’ll go back. It’s hard to say. The lines between iOS and Android have been blurred so much because they are so similar in so many ways. You really can’t go wrong with either one and they both offer so much of the same experiences now-days as opposed to years ago when there was a wider gap between the two OS’s. With things like RCS being shared, I think that gap is going to shrink even more. I do have some apps on iOS that I wish were on Android but overall the experience has been fairly decent. It did take me quire a while to get used to not having a forward swipe though. I really wish you could forward swipe on Android, lol. I don’t really get the mindset of diehard Android users that look down their noses at iOS. They are so similar now it’s not really anything to act superior about. Sure, Android allows a little more “freedom” but we pay for it by constantly being monitored by Google and frankly, Google has been doing some REALLY shady stuff recently with privacy and users data. Apple should be commended a bit more for their privacy and encryption efforts. Google is on a slippery slope and it’s kind of worrying to see the path they are currently on. They are starting to go against their mantra of “don’t be evil” - they even removed it from their code of conduct a couple of years ago. 🤷‍♂️ ---

As somebody with over 200gb of downloaded music, and a preference for a removable sd card slot, and an aux port (along with all the audiophile specs this phone can give me) I prefer android, specifically the LGV60 ThinQ+ ---

Personally I would go android but my family is all apple ecosystem and convenience trumps it all right now in my life. I do have a separate dac for my iPhone for if I want really good sound quality but often AirPod pro are daily drivers. Not because they are best but because Apple has built an eco system that is hard to leave and if your whole family unit isn’t in it makes some interactions annoying ---

I switched to Apple years ago because of the security update issues related to Android. It would take so long to get security updates on anything except a Pixel that I would constantly get locked out of my work email and slack and stuff until LG or Samsung or whoever got off their butt and pushed the security update out so that work would unblock my access. In the end I ended up preferring iOS and how it integrates with my MacBook anyway. Also this thread was resurrected by what appears to be a shill trying to sell an api and not anyone genuinely interested in anything here. ---

Apple since the iPhone 4. The integration with Apple Watch Ultra 2, AirPods Pro and Apple TV just makes sense for me. I’m old and not a tech genius. When I’m out and about I leave my phone at home. My watch does most of everything I need. And when using everything together it’s seamless. ---

Android for me. Main things for me are adblocking in browser and on YouTube, having a universal back button (and option for navigation buttons in general), and price (phone itself + accessories). My work phone is an iPhone and it always just slightly annoys me to use. The web browser experience in particular seems pretty bad on iOS but I also haven’t spent a lot of time trying to make it better. ---

I have an older Samsung A03s (android) which serves me just fine. It is old enough that it doesn’t get many updates. My wife has had a number of newer Samsung phones (she keeps breaking them) which continually get updated, mostly with games and marketing crap that I have to go in and remove. I’m perfectly happy with my older phone. I don’t do banking or any other critical function on it that I need to worry about.
