# Anyone ever feel like selling their Collection?

Just curious,
I’ve been feeling I should heavily reduce the number of the yo-yos I’ve acquired. Possibly set a limit, maybe only keep 1 case; weigh what I hold onto more carefully. Sell or swap when there is a new yo-yo to try. Anyone tried this?
Funny, cause I’ve actually been throwing more recently and learning new tricks.
I have so many “things”. Anyone else ever feel a bit encumbered with the number of yo-yos they’ve amassed over the years?
I’ve been going through them considering what I’d put on the BST. The task is absurdly difficult for me. Am I hoarding?
I’m not really much of an impulse buyer or a “buy to try” I’m also lucky to have a couple awesome friends that also yo (way better than me) who have very different aesthetic tastes than I do. So, I try not to buy anything I wouldn’t want to keep.
Anyone into catch and release type collecting?
How do you guys manage your collections?

Yes! And I have sold very large chunks of it.
Most notably I sold around 90 No Jives (the only yoyo I really “collected”) about a year ago. No regrets. I certainly have yo-yos I MISS on occasion but regret is a choice and I have more than what I need. I don’t think it’s bad to have a collection but if it isn’t serving you theees nothing wrong w parting with it.

I think of selling all my possesions and becoming a hermit all the time(used to dream of being stranded on a desert island as a kid, swiss family robinson and robinson crusoe are still my favorite books)

I’m in the same boat. The problem is putting them all up on the BST - just seems extremely painful unless you sell as lots (which most people wont buy). The other issue that keeps me from doing it is the cost of what you want for them - looking at what I paid vs what I see others are selling for, I just can’t bring myself to let go of a $300 throw for $100 or less…I will eventually start letting some go, but not with how low prices are!

I’ve parted out some of my gems. Having “special” yo-yos to fret over stopped being fun; I’m too anxious for that.
I could see myself selling most of what I have left, but I don’t think I’ll ever sell my Smashing collection. They’re too unique and too fun. There are also a few that don’t follow a theme but hold significant sentimental value. G2, CoreCo, SF, OhYesYo, CLYW show up in that bunch. Maybe 8-10 total throws.
So, sell everything? No. Heartbroken if the others went away? Maybe a bit at first, but I’d be ok.

I’d probably sell like 90% of my collection if someone showed up with a truck and a wire transfer, lmao. The effort at this point just far outweighs my laziness. 🤣
There are some that are sentimental, sure, and some that I just like the look of, or other collection aspects, etc. But from a general play standpoint, I find myself going back to the same handful over and over certainly.

Well, speaking not as a player but as a collector: for me, the point lies in admiring the items—completing the set, trading, selling, and buying limited editions. So, selling it doesn’t make much sense to me—unless it’s a personal choice to downsize the collection, perhaps to own fewer pieces that hold higher monetary or sentimental value.
In late 2024, I sold about 90% of my collection to help fund the purchase of my apartment. I had around 130 yo-yos and kept just one case holding 15 of them—including the complete Pyro OG collection. I never intend to sell those; owning a complete Pyro set was my childhood dream, and I achieved that goal a few years back. The proceeds from the yo-yos alone covered the entire renovation cost for the apartment—which was also my first property purchase.

Lately I’ve bought a few yoyos and felt nothing when they arrive, definitely a sign of something…
It’s too bad that it’s so much easier to buy than to sell stuff online.

Yes, I find myself in the same situation, though I have a quite a few yoyos. On the other hand I feel a connection to a lot of them in some way or the other, some were gifts from a departed friend. I sold quite a few a couple of years ago, but most were duplicates or multiple colors of the same yoyo.

I’ve sold of countless throws in my 18 years in this community, and I only miss the odd few. I’ve sold stuff when I needed the money, and replaced it when I didn’t. I have a small handful of yo-yos I’ll never sell, and a bit pile of ones I would, it I ever get tired of them

I know contests sometimes do a “swap meet” format after the contest. PNWR had a great turnout hosted and organized by @LouVanLanning. I think nats had one this year too. A lot of people brought entire cases and were trying to unload and trade. If I were trying to get rid of my entire collection, I would bring it to PNWR.
