# Any paracord string aficionados out there?

Trying to hunt down a certain type of cord that came with a chonkakegoma top. It is stiffer than regular nylon paracord, but very similar to the 275 or #95 paracord in size, and it has the single piece core. This is the white string on the top compared to the paracords, any ideas?

This doesn’t look like paracord. The way it is woven and the way it’s frays… It doesn’t look like nylon. Could it maybe be cotton?
Like maybe a woven cotton macrame cord?

It looks like that, but there is a single strand of nylon or something in the center, and the housing melts if you heat it, so it doesn’t act like cotton, but it feels like it.

Hmmmm, maybe look into 3mm braided Chinese knotting cords? Those are nylon.

The first cord is kumihimo ( threads are parallel to length), the others are kumimari (tangential to length). Looks like a standard round 16 thread, photo of the end would be helpful

Thanks. This is thinner than top string and has this odd single (nylon?) center core.

I’m guessing that the nylon core has zero stretch and helps control stretch on the braid. The actual braid shouldn’t be hollow or need a core for shape, and when fully stretched usually stays that way.
Looks good quality, probably worth finding a Japanese toy shop or something. You could also try making one from crochet cotton like mine, not complicated (pretty much the first pattern you learn) but long enough to be a bit annoying.

Hmmm interesting… that core looks like it could be either nylon monofilament or fluorocarbon monofilament. :thinking:
