Sorry to necro this; but I just saw it. Is this really a thing? I have always been taught that you NEVER try to attack from above when fighting with a knife. Have I been led astray? What purpose does an overhand grip serve when trying to be defensive? ---

There are more knife ā€˜stylesā€™ than knife companies probably. :joy: Pakal or Pikal is a Filipino style meaning ā€˜to rip or tearā€™. The blade faces inward. To majorly simply it is for defense by holding your space. Waiting for any attack to enter your personal space/zone. Strikes can still be up or down or side and pull hard to your center. Donā€™t over extend in this style. This will split feet and hands easily. At blade show decades ago there were Filipino demonstrators showing this style and also calling it ā€˜mantisā€™ iirc. It was a fun and interesting style to train. So much so I was designing a pakal knife with Peter Jensen from Australia after buying his EVO survival knife and camping with it for a while. Iā€™ll try to find the drawings and cut outs and post them. Usually people make their own, or now you can even buy specific ones made for spinning with more weight on the ends of each pen. I just carry a normal one for EDC. ---

Remember getting this like it was yesterday. Flew down to Orlando when they held the big knife show there. Ordered it from Charlie Dake and his wife. All the killer kitchen knives I own I got from trading YoYos. Do a search. I still have great stuff but Iā€™m down a; Mg, Sov, BvM, that was my Kramer 10ā€ Damascus; then it was my MechaBapezilla for my Kramer 10ā€ Meji; then I traded @FourCorner his purple Ti Peak for a 9.5ā€ Miyabi Black. Zero regrets all great trades. ---
